Why property?

Simple, you are spoiled for choice.

Do you like the sound of being a Property Valuer, or perhaps you're more suited to Property Management?  Have you considered the high profile of Property Development, or do you fancy yourself as more of a Facilities Manager ?  Plant and Machinery Valuation is a must, but then Project Management is so attractive.  Can you see yourself on the news as a Market Research expert, or are you more suited to the catch phrases of Property Marketing?  Property Finance and Investment you may lean towards, but don't overlook the offer of Real Estate Sales and Leasing.

If you want a rewarding and dynamic career, then consider studying property at one of New Zealand's leading Universities.

Peter Young

Technical Services and Sustainability, Hong Kong Land

I work for Hong Kong Land, which is one of Asia's leading property investment, management and development groups.  Hong Kong Land has various property interests around the Asia region but the core of the property portfolio is in Hong Kong, where it owns and manages some 5 million square feet of prime commercial space.  My role as Head of Technical Services and Sustainability sees me heading a team of largely technical staff assisted by outsourced service providers ensuring building services operate with efficiency and reliability.

As a property professional, you develop well rounded skills to lead teams in operational, transactional and financial management of property assets and people. These skills are highly transportable in today's global market, and I have been fortunate to have worked across several disciplines.

Property as a discipline is very diverse and can open lots of doors in different roles.  The best property people show a high level of creativity as to how they can mould and change assets to add value and meet changing demand.  I have enjoyed my journey to date as a property professional, and I would recommend property as a rewarding and fulfilling career option for aspiring young professionals.

Cara Piertersma

Commercial Property Manager, DTZ

For the last five years, I have worked with the property services team at DTZ as a commercial property manager.  During this time, I worked for a wide range of clients including private investors, bodies corporate, banks, government organisations and large multinational organisations.  Working in property services every day is so diverse, which keeps the job interesting.  I love working in the property industry and have found that property management has given me a broad base of experience.  I look forward to the challenges I may face around the corner.
